The Working with Children Check card is valid for five years unless surrendered or revoked. We’ll send you a reminder email, text or letter in the mail 28 days before your card expires.
When should I renew my card?
You can renew your card online from six months before its expiry date until three months after it has expired.
It’s illegal to do child-related work after your card expires unless you’ve lodged your renewal, or you now qualify for an exemption (see our 'When you don't need a Check' page). If you still intend to do child-related work after your card has expired, you’ll need to start a new application.

You might need a new photo if you have renewed your card before or changed from a Volunteer to an Employee card.
You need to :
Face the camera with your head straight, not tilted
Have a neutral expression on your face
Only show your head and shoulders
Be in front of a plain, light-coloured background
Have your eyes open
You can wear:
Glasses if you normally wear them
Apparel covering your hair if you do so for religious or medical reasons
Your photo must be:
Colour
Have sharp focus
jpg or jpeg format
A strong contrast between face and background
A minimum 406 x 521 pixels
Well lit with no shadows
Less than 5MB in size
Less than 12 months old
